IEEE Activities and Awards

IEEE:

  • As Chair (2008-09), Ramakrishna strategically transformed Bangalore section as one of the most vibrant sections in IEEE. His volunteer services to IEEE India Council, Bangalore Section and PES Chapters were focused on providing opportunities / encouragement for members to recognize and advance technical/professional leadership skills. He was elected as IEEE R10 Director (2015-16) and contributed to sustainable membership growth through large diversity of services offered to region members.

  • As a Member-at-Large of PES Governing Board, he has spearheaded public-facing Smart Grid / Smart City workshops in several countries where city government officials, corporate leaders and local non-profit groups participated. At present he is driving the Philanthropic Initiatives in PES.

  • His IEEE experience through cross functional leadership in membership development, conferences, professional & student Activities is evident from successful completion of historic IEEE 125th year anniversary celebration, 50 Years R10 Golden Jubilee Celebrations, R10 SWYL Congress, Global WIE Summit and All India Student Branch Meet. By chairing all these programs, he could lead, guide and develop a core group of dedicated volunteers which exhibits his strong interpersonal skills with sensitivity to cross-cultural and transnational issues.

  • He was the main architect of IEEE PES International 2010 Smart Grids Workshop at Infosys Mysore, and 2013 ISGT Asia Conference at Bangalore that formed a basis for planning & road mapping of Smart Grid pilots and attracted more than 1000 registrations each.

Accomplishments:

Some major accomplishments that Ramakrishna brought to IEEE include:

  • Sphere-headed Smart City Workshops for member development to bring together members, non-members, industry, research & academia together with policy makers, regulators and government agencies to discuss the challenges and opportunities for all stake holders on local emerging needs and technologies. Successfully organised many smart city workshops (2019-21) across India and the first global Smart City workshop in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

  • Sustained Membership growth across R10, being the best in IEEE Regions is an example of R10 Volunteer leadership efforts. Introduced Member Benefits in Region (India) like Member Medical Insurance, Membership Dues Payment in local Currency, Discounted entry to IEEE members for Night Safari at Singapore, Visvesvaraya Technological Museum at Bangalore and Birla Museum at Hyderabad. As R10 Director, Ramakrishna lead the mentoring meetings with volunteer leadership of many sections and councils in R10 including, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Macau, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, India , Australia and China Councils to build member activities membership across Region10.

  • Development of Mobile App for Member engagement across R10 is one of the many strategic plans implemented which now got adopted as the Event Finder by IEEE HQ and formed basis for currently publicised IEEE Mobile App.

  • Rejuvenated the Young Professional Community in R10 by classification of Regional YP activities into Zones, starting off self-sustainable events like Hard-Tech Summit and YP tracks in all R10 Flagship events.

  • Created an Ad Hoc in Region10 level to assess the requirements and needs of Industry members, Young Professionals and Graduate Students with focus on Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Internships and skill development.

  • The industry experience and classic interpersonal relations possessed Ramakrishna helped to convert the IEEE strategies into tangible and tactical actions like co-ordination with local sections/chapters to kick-off the Smart City Workshop Series in association with PES, Co-ordination for restoration of Global Sister Society Agreements, JANS Awards, IEEE-HKN new Chapter Installations, aiding signing off the corporate partnership agreements of IEEE/PES and MOU signing of IEEE-SA with Bureau of Indian Standards in India, help supporting staff and location of offices in R10 etc.

Recognitions:

Ramakrishna’s contributions to professional developments have duly been acknowledged by global IEEE through various IEEE Awards.

  • 2020 IEEE India Council Life-Time Achievement Award was received by Ramakrishna for his exemplary services rendered to IEEE Bangalore Section, India Council and Region10

  • He received 2017-IEEE MGA Larry K. Wilson Transnational Award for dynamic leadership in building a vibrant IEEE Asia Pacific community with outstanding contributions he made to numerous IEEE activities and the example he set in carrying forward the goals and objectives of the IEEE MGA Board.

  • Ramakrishna embodies the spirit of IEEE and provided excellent advocacy of ethics in Engineering for practicing and budding Engineers to develop technologies to solve humanitarian challenges through AIYEHUM, a novel HAC initiative taken by him as section chair and received 2014-IEEE MGA Innovation Award.

  • In recognition of his valuable services to Power Engineering, the IEEE PES, Bangalore Chapter honored him with 2012 IEEE PES Outstanding Engineer Award.

  • He received 2011-IEEE MGA Achievement Award for engaging and developing members in Bangalore Section and India by leading programs and events to promote IEEE young professionals and technical activities, including All India Young Engineers' Humanitarian Challenge (AIYEHUM).

  • Contributions for growth of IEEE’s Technical & Humanitarian activities in India and Asia–Pacific fetched him 2010 R10 Outstanding Volunteer Award and 2010 Bangalore Section Outstanding Volunteer Award.
